Ethiopia Football: Sheikh Al Amoudi donates 100 million birr for Mekelle Stadium & road project
Mekele, Tigray – Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al Amoudi, the Ethio-Saudi billionaire and patron of St. George FC, has donated 100 million Birr (a little over $6 million) for the construction of Mekele Stadium and asphalt paving in the city.
The Mayor of Mekele, Negussie Gebre told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) yesterday that 70 million Birr will be used for the construction of the stadium, which is currently underway, and the remaining 30 million for the road construction.
Mayor Negussie noted that the money would speed up the construction of the stadium which lagged behind schedule due to lack of funds.
He said Sheikh Al Amoudi also made a 30 million Birr donation for road construction, as part of his 50 million Birr pledge for the city.
Sheikh Al Amoudi had previously donated 20 million birr for the same project.
