Ethiopia says ready to host 3rd International Family Planning Conference

Family PlanningEthiopia is ready to host the 3rd International Family Planning Conference (3rd IFPC) to be held from 12-15 November 2013 under the theme “Full Access and Full Choice”.

About 4000 health researchers, academicians, scientists, educators, programmers and policy makers are expected to participate on the conference that would be held in the new African Union Conference Centre.

“Today women in Ethiopia are empowered to use their preferred contraceptive methods….Consequently fertility rate declined from 6.0 to 4.8 from 2000 to 2010,” said Minster of Health, Dr. Keseteberhan Admasu while briefing journalists on the conference.

He attributed the progress to strong government commitment mainly through its innovative health extension program, which engages community health workers as well as local and international partners.

The conference provides an international forum where various stakeholders discuss issues, approaches, strategies and good practices on family planning, he said.
