Mo Farah breaks Kenenisa Bekele’s 2 mile World Indoor Record
Britain’s Mo Farah broke the two-mile indoor world record with a superb run at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix.
Farah, 31, left the field behind as he stormed home in a time of eight minutes 3.40 seconds – breaking Kenenisa Bekele’s (Ethiopia) previous record of 8:04.34.
It is the double Olympic champion’s first world record.
This was Farah’s first race of 2015 after spending the last two months training at altitude in Ethiopia.
He covered the first mile in 4:03.9 but increased the pace and covered the second half in 3:59.5.
Paul Kipsiele Koech finished a distant second in 8:13.46 and Bernard Lagat was third in 8:17.05, a world age 40 best.
