Gebre-Egziabher Gebremariam sets new record at Healthy Kidney 10K race in Central Park
New York, USA – World Cross Country Champion Gebre-Egziabher Gebremariam sets a new course record to win the Healthy Kidney 10K race in Central Park, here yesterday.  The previous record holder was Tadesse Tola, a fellow countryman.
Gebre-Egziabher finished in 27 minutes, 42 seconds in only his third pro road race. Peter Kamais  and Julius Kogo, both from Kenya finished second and third respectively.
Gebre-Egziabher received $7,500 for the victory and a $20,000 bonus for the course record.
In the women’s race, Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia, who runs for the West Side Runners in New York, broke the tape in 33:09 and improved the women’s event record by 23 seconds.
