CS Sfaxien advances to Semi-final of CAF Confederation Cup
Sfax, Tunisia – With one match in hand, CS Sfaxien of Tunisia advanced to the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Haras El-Hodoud of Egypt 3-1 in their Group B match here on Saturday.
CS Sfaxien won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2007 and 2008, and will be joined by FUS Rabat of Morocco who held Zambia’s Zanaco to a 1-1 draw earlier in Lusaka.
Abbas Hashim broke the deadlock after two minutes but striker Ahmed Salama drew parity for the Egyptian visitors, who are making a third successive appearance at the mini-league stage on 21 minutes.
Striker Hamza Younes restored the lead on the half-hour mark before Lassaad Dridi sealed victory with the third goal three minutes from recess.
By the victory, Sfaxien moves to the top spot on 10 points same as FUS Rabat but on superior goals. Zanaco follow in that order on five points with Haras El-Hodoud at the bottom with just two points from five games.
CS Sfaxien will play their last Group B match against FUS of Morocco the week of October 10-12, 2010.
