Getu Feleke sets new course record for Amsterdam Marathon
Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Getu Feleke of Ethiopia won the 35th edition of the Amsterdam Marathon by setting a new course record of 2:05.44, lowering the previous best time set last year by Gilbert Yegon of Kenya by 34 seconds.
The 23-year-old Ethiopian, who ran 2:09.32 at last year’s competition, improved his time in the marathon when this past May he finished fourth in the Volkswagen Prague Marathon in 2:08.04.ÂÂ
Among the top five finishers, Wilson Chebet of Kenya (2:-06.12) and Cherkos Feleke of Ethiopia (2:07.37), who finished second and fourth respectively, were making their debuts today.ÂÂ
In the women’s category, defending champion Eyerusalem Kuma of Ethiopia, had to settle for second place behind came in second behind Alex Timbili of Kenya.ÂÂ
