Ethiopian Premier League: Sebeta City holds St. George to a 1-1 draw
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Defending champions St. George FC began the new Ethiopian New Year with two trophies, winning the Addis Ababa City Cup and the Ethiopian Super Cup.
Playing at home and in front of their adoring fans, no one suspected that the visiting Sebeta City team will give the Saints a hard time. But that’s exactly what happened as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
Sebeta City led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Beniam Assefa’s goal. St. George got the equalizer through their midfielder Yonatan Berhane.
In the second match of the double header, Dedebit FC defeated Hawassa City 4-2, with two goals coming from their strikers Getaneh Kebede, Tadele Mengesha and another from Salif Gabriel, the Ghanaian international. Ashenafi Adem scored both Hawassa City’s goals.
St. George will need to regroup when they face Lideta Nyala in Week 2 this Saturday.
