Lideta Nyala shocks St. George 2-1
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Newly promoted Lideta Nyala shocked defending champions St. George FC with a 2-1 victory this afternoon in a double header of the Ethiopian Premier League played here at Abebe Bikila Stadium.
In the second game, Ethiopian Coffee defeated the visiting Harar Brewery 1-0 thanks to a goal from Medhane Tadesse.
The Saints started the new season on Wednesday with a disappointing 1-1 draw with the visiting Sebeta City, who was just unlucky to get all three points. Sebeta led t 1-0 at half-time and also dominated the second half.
In today’s match, the Saints scored in the first half through Zome, their Cameroonian striker. Lideta responded with two goals in the second period from former St. George striker Mekonnen Negussie (penalty) and a beautiful strike from Tafesse Solomon.
St. George’s problems:.
1. It looks like Italian coach Giuseppe Dossena has not yet figured out the appropriate positions for his players.
2. The team is still struggling to replace the suspended playmaker Michael Desta.
3. Although the decision by Coach Dossena to move up some of his youth players to the first team is commendable and will surely benefit the team in the long run, the players still lack experience.
4. Some of the foreign players are playing poorly.
