Ethiopia Football: Dedebit FC Appoints Yohannes Sahle GM & Technical Director
Addis Ababa – Ethiopian Premier League team Dedebit FC has announced that it has appointed Yohannes Sahle as the club’s General Manager and Technical Director, according to the weekly Amharic newspaper The Ethiopian Reporter.
Yohannes served as Technical Director of the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) for 8 months before he resigned recently citing interferences by the EFF.
The Ethiopian-American, who has a graduate degree from a US University, where he lived for the past 25 years, was hired by FIFA to help Ethiopian football. Although his contract indicated that housing accommodation would be provided for him by the EFF so that he can bring his family back from the US, he was made to stay in a one-room hotel, where he lived for 8 months.
Yohannes was also a former member of Saint George FC and played for the Ethiopian national team.
The newspaper said that Dedebit FC’s Founder and President, Colonel Awol Abdurahim has indicated that the signing ceremony was held in the club’s premises yesterday. Colonel Awol further noted that Yohannes was the right man for the job.
Dedebit FC, which is now in its second year in the EPL, has become one of the strong clubs in the country, with 5 of its players serving the Ethiopian national team, which recently took part in CECAFA Challenge Cup in Tanzania, where it finished fourth.
The club has youth and female soccer teams, and plans to start football academies throughout the country.
Yohannes’ contract with Dedebit FC stipulates that he will receive a very large salary, a house and an office.
