2014 FIFA World Cup: Ethiopia to take on Somalia in Djibouti tomorrow
Addis Ababa – The Ethiopian national soccer team aka “The Walias†will take on Somalia in the first leg preliminary match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup at El Hadj Hassan Gouled Stadium in Djibouti tomorrow.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at Nairobi’s Nyayo National stadium on November 11 after Kenya accepted the request by the Somalia Football Federation (SFF) to stage the game in the country due to the insecurity in Mogadishu.
The two teams will meet for the return leg match in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, November 16.
The Ethiopian team left for Djibouti yesterday minus Adane Girma (St. George) , Salahdin Said (Wadi Degla, Egypt), Alula Girma (St. George), Shimelis Bekele (St. George) and Asrat Megerssa (EEPCO), who are all nursing injuries.
Furthermore, interim Coach Sewenet Bishaw has also cut striker Bedasso Hora (Defence) and midfielder Frew Solomon (Mugher Cement) from the team due to lack of match fitness.
The players selected are:
Goal keepers: Ydnekachew Kidane (Defence) and Binyam Habtamu (Dedebit).
Defenders:- Degu Debebe (St. George), Abebaw Butako (St. George), Tesfaye Bekele (Ethiopia Coffee), Abdurezak Nasser (Sidama Coffee), Aynalem Hailu (Defence) and Mengistu Assefa (Dedebit).
Midfielders:- Tesfaye Alebachew (St. George), Messoud Mohammed (Ethiopia Coffee), Tafesse Solomon (EEPCO) and Michael Gari (Harar Beer).
Strikers: Fikru Tefera (Kuopion Palloseura -Finland), Oumed Oukuri (Defence), Getaneh Kebede (Dedebit) and Dawit Fekadu (Dedebit).
