Semien Mountains’ Residents generate 2.6 Million Birr from tourism-related services

Gondar, Ethiopia – The Office of Semien Mountains National Park said that local residents generated 2.6 million Birr ($150,000) income from tourism-related services over the last six months.

Office Head, Sisay Mekuanent told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) that 4,600 people, who lived around the park generated the said income by renting their pack animals and tents as well as cooking food for tourists visiting the park.

This year’s income exceeds last year’s figure by 500,000 Birr ($29,000), Mekuanent noted.
