‘Gap Yah’ charity trip to Ethiopia
Are you going on a gap yah? We all know comedian Matt Lacey, (also known as alter ego Orlando Charmon) who was made famous for his YouTube video ‘Gap Yah’. Well, he is now setting his sights a little further afield on his next gap year adventure by going on a charity trip to Ethiopia.
Matt is hosting a two-week trip to raise money for Get Connected, UK’s free and confidential helpline for anyone under 25. Last year, the service was contacted by nearly 70,000 children and young people in crisis and it’s estimated that the money raised by the trip will help the charity support over 1,000 young people.
The bespoke, one-off charity trip will see 20 people accompany Matt on a 14-day trip to Ethiopia, one of Africa’s most adventurous destinations.
The trip, run by overlanding company Dragoman, will be departing on the 5th August 2012 and will travel from Nairobi to Addis Ababa. Some of the highlights will include a trek to the Omo Valley, home to the Hamer tribe who practice bull jumping as an initiation rite, visiting the slopes of Mt Kenya and relaxing in the hot springs at Wendo Genet. Some of the places visited on the two-week trip are only accessible by overlanding.
Matt said: “Travelling is a passion that my online character, Orlando, and I both share. I’m hoping that as many people as possible will have fun supporting this incredible charity whilst being able to experience up-close cultural encounters with some of the most fascinating tribes on the planet.”
Get Connected will also be encouraging Matt and participants to raise additional funds via Matt’s own fundraising page.
