Ethiopia secures $60 million from oilseed export
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Trade Minister Kebede Chane said Ethiopia secured over 60 million USD from oilseed export last month.
Speaking at the opening of an international conference on oil seeds, pulses and spices here on Monday, Kebede said the country secured the stated sum from export of 48,000 tons of oil seeds.
He said export trade is key for the agriculture led development strategy, he said, adding, sesame production has been contributing to the increase in the income.
The conference and similar forums significantly contribute to promote the country’s products across the world market.
The Minister on the occasion urged concerned bodies to further strengthen efforts to make export products competitive in the world market.
Oil seeds, pulses and spices Processors and Exporters Association President, Hailu Berhe on his part said the conference will help to link local exporters with external purchasers.
It will also create opportunity to promote good images and investment alternatives of the country, he said.
Conference Organizing Committee Chairperson, Tewodros Yilma also said the conference significantly contributes to expand market ties.
Some 300 people drawn from Asia, Europe and Africa are taking part in the three-day conference.
