13th World Congress on Public Health to be held in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – (Press Release) - The Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) along with the World Federation of Public Health (WFPHA) will be hosting the 13th World Congress on Public Health in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 23-27 April 2012 at the Millennium Conference Hall.
The Theme of the Congress is “Moving Towards Global Health Equity: Opportunities and Threatsâ€Â. Plenary sessions, exclusive and special sessions, poster presentations and an exhibition will be the main features of the Congress, all of which will be addressing the theme. There will be some 134 abstract presentations spread over the plenary and exclusive sessions as well as 550 posters presented in the Millennium Hall. Various meritorious services will also be acknowledged and awarded at the Congress. In addition, as we are now only three years away from the target year of 2015, meeting the health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be a major and fundamental topic to be discussed thoroughly by the participants.
The Congress is expected to be a platform for facilitating closer collaboration and partnership among public health professionals, associations, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector operating at international, regional and national levels. It is also expected that one of the outcomes of the congress is improving networking and partnership among public health associations in Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia.
The EPHA, WFPHA and the Ethiopian government are greatly pleased and proud to host, organize, and present to you this congress, which will be one of the most stimulating and exciting conferences of national and global interest hosted by Ethiopia in 2012.
Preparation has been underway at international and national levels for a while now. For instance, various institutional mechanisms have been established at the WFPHA and at EPHA secretariats. In addition, a National Congress Planning Committee composed of different sectoral Ministries and International and national partners have been established, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Tedros Adhanom, the Ethiopian Minister of Health. An autonomous Congress organizing Secretariat was established and has been active under the EPHA Secretariat. All other organizational activities required are currently being thoroughly followed in order to make this congress a fruitful and successful one with memorable experiences at the participants while making their stay in Addis Ababa a pleasant one as well.
