2012 Great Ethiopian Run: CBE keeps title sponsorship, early registration introduced

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) keeps the title sponsorship for Great Ethiopian Run, the biggest road races in Africa for the second year running.

The 12th edition of the 10km International CBE Great Ethiopian Run is taking place on Sunday 25th November 2012 with 36,000 participants. Great Ethiopian Run (GER) is introducing a new early registration system for participants.

Despite the flourishing of private commercial banks in recent years, CBE has remained in the lead in terms of assets, deposits, customer base and branch network. Currently, it has 526 branches throughout the country. CBE is also taking the lead in supporting sport in Ethiopia which includes male and female soccer clubs competing in the Ethiopian Premier League, an athletic club in the first division and title sponsorship for biggest road race in Africa.

Every year there is a huge demand for places in the Great Ethiopian Run 10km International. To cope with this ever-increasing demand, this year an earlier system of registration is being introduced. An early registration system will help to provide participants with a race t-shirt of the right size. T-shirts will be produced according to the sizes of those registered. Early registration also avoids the rush on buying places which the organizers have experienced in the two months before the race and will help to reduce black market t-shirt sales.

Individual participants’ registration starts on Monday 23 April 2012 at eight selected Commercial Bank of Ethiopia branches while group participants can register at the Great Ethiopian Run office. When participants register they pay and get a coupon that they will use on the race week to collect their race t-shirt. T-shirts will be distributed to individual participants at the Exhibition Centre from November 21-24, 2012.

The following eight CBE branches are open for registration:

•    Africa Godana (Dembel)
•    China-Africa (Bole bridge)
•    Haya Hulet (Gollagul bld.)
•    Temnja Yazea (Mesualekia)
•    Mehal Gebeya (Merkato)
•    Sengatera (Wabi Sheblle)
•    Arada Giorgis (Piazza)

•     Selassie (Arat Kilo)
