Lucy ready to battle Tanzania at home
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Ethiopia’s national women soccer team, popularly known as Lucy, was called to camp twenty days ago to prepare physically and mentally for their decisive first leg home match against Tanzania. The winner of the two legs will book a place in the 8th African Nations’ Women Championship.
After 6-2 aggregate two legs score line victory over Egypt, Lucy had gone through to the final qualification campaign to face a strong adversary Tanzania for a two leg encounter, with the first leg match to take place in Addis Ababa in two weeks time.
Twenty four players, including all members of the squad that thrashed Egypt were called to camp. Their three week preparation for the match consists of two weeks of twice a day intensive practice, then a final week focused on the technical cohesion and team work of the squad.
According to head coach Abraham T/Haimanot, the showdown against one of the continent’s strong women national side Tanzania is likely to be very challenging, but he is planning to finish off business at the first leg home match. Ethiopian women all time top scorer Birtukan G/Kristos told ETV sport reporter that they are looking forward for the showdown as it is pay-back time to the visitor’s Tanzania that defeated Lucy 3-1 here in the capital.
The winner of the two leg match claims a place in the last eight that qualifies for the 8th African Nations’ Cup final to take place in Equatorial Guinea. Strong central defender and team skipper remarked that they know their adversaries all too well and are eager for a revenge, thus Lucy will surely book its’ place in the last eight.
