Decision weekend for African Women Championship qualifiers:

The race to decide who joins hosts Equatorial Guinea and DR Congo at this year’s African Women’s Championship enters the final leg this weekend . Six matches are on and from these three teams namely Ivory Coast, defending African Champions Nigeria and South Africa look set to confirm qualification after impressive wins in the first leg matches a fortnight ago.

Ivory Coast take a commanding 7-0 lead to Mozambique, while Nigeria welcomes Zimbabwe with a handsome 2-0 win from their trip to Harare where they beat Mighty Warriors in their backyard. Banyana Banyana of South Africa also won 3-1 away in Zambia and will fancy their chances of finishing of the She-Polopolo ladies in Johannesburg at the weekend.

It is not so clear in the other matches with Tanzania entertaining Ethiopia in Dar-es Salam dead keen to erase the 2-1 defeat incurred in Addis Ababa in the first leg match. Senegal held Morocco to a goalless draw and will be hoping to put home advantage to full use with a win to take them through to the finals.

It will be equally tough when Cameroon hosts Ghana with both teams having played a 1-1 draw two weeks ago in Ghana. From the eight teams that made the finals in 2010 only Mali and Algeria ( already out) are certain to miss the 2012 edition in Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria’s Falcons are the defending champions after beating Equatorial Guinea (4-2) in the final and host South Africa finished third with Cameroon in fourth place.
