Leather export generates $25.2 million in first quarter

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (WIC) – Export of leather and leather products earned the country 25.2 million dollars in first quarter of the budget year, Leather Industry Development Institute disclosed.

The export included finished leather, shoes, leather clothing and gloves, Birhanu Serjebo, corporate communications director at the institute, told WIC.

He said export of finished leather is showing a steady growth generating 20.2 million USD in the first quarter. This is 5.5 million USD more than the same period last budget year that ended in July 2012.

Export of leather shoes generated four million USD, showing a 1.8 million USD growth while leather gloves earned the nation 615,000 dollars more than  the same period last budget year.

Last year, Ethiopia obtained 112.06 million USD from the industry.
