Hawassa University opens new campus
Hawassa, Ethiopia – A new campus constructed by Hawassa University in Yirgalem Town of South Ethiopia Peoples’ State with 55 million Birr was inaugurated on Sunday.
University President Dr. Yoseph Mammo said on the occasion that the new campus called Awada Campus is part of the expansion work to increase enrollment capacity of the university. Dr. Yoseph said the campus constructed on 65 hectares land has dormitories with a capacity to give service to 800 students and classrooms , among others.
The campus will give a first degree level training to 580 students in accounting, management, economics and cooperatives fields of study, among others. He said construction of offices, dining hall and library, among others, launched with 38 million Birr will be finalized in the near future. Over 320 million Birr is allocated to undertake additional expansion work for the campus.
State Chief and Administration Board Chairperson of the University, Shiferaw Shigute inaugurated the campus. Shiferaw on the occasion said the regional administration and the public will provide support to students enrolled in the new campus. Elders in the area on their parts said construction of the campus helps to speed up development and create jobs.
