Adika Tour 31 back in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The four 4-wheel drive cars that were on the Adika Tour 31 expedition which kicked off on January 6, 2013, arrived in Addis Ababa today.
It is to be recalled that the Adika holdings organized a trans-Africa tour in support of the Ethiopian National Football team, The Waliyas. The tour dubbed “Adika Tour 31, Peace, Football and Tourism†crossed five African countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique) in its expedition to South Africa. Maputo, Mozambique was an unplanned destination the group was also fortunate enough to visit.
In the midst of the tour, the team met with 91 Ethiopians that were held captive in Tanzania for illegally attempting to pass to South Africa. The detainees were imprisoned for a significant period of time as a consequence of lack of finances from the Tanzanian government to return them back home. The Adika Tour 31 team managed to raise close to 4,800 USD, the fund needed for the prisoners to return to Ethiopia, during their stay in Tanzania. A course of action is now in progress in collaboration with the Kenyan Embassy for the safe arrival of the detainees to their home country, Ethiopia.
One of the highlights of the tour saw the team stopping over the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a very renowned and major tourist center in Africa. The Ethiopian ambassador to Kenya also greeted the team with a welcoming party in Nairobi, Kenya.
The group plans to hold a photograph exhibition and a documentary screening that showcases their journey to South Africa in its entirety. The exhibition will be the result of a collective input of many photographers from alternative sources.
The tour which was accomplished with a cost of more than 1.5 million birr is deemed to be highly successful in enhancing Ethiopia’s image in the international platform. The Adika holdings also plan to support the national team with yet another impressive expedition if the team qualifies to make its debut at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
The Adika Tour 31 team had journalists, film professionals and members of the Adika holdings in its ensemble.
