Michigan Family Wins South African Safari with YouTube Video
A Michigan family with a three-year-old daughter has won the 10-day South African family safari grand prize in Africa Adventure Consultants’ “Monkey See, Monkey Do†South African safari contest.
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) February 21, 2013 - Three-year-old Ella Grace Kurtis and her parents, David and Chantelle of DeTour, Mich., will be going on a 10-day South Africa safari as the grand-prize winners of the “Monkey See, Monkey Do – African Safari Contest,†sponsored by Africa Adventure Consultants (AAC) in cooperation with South African Tourism and South African Airways. A panel of judges selected the Kurtis family’s video entry for its quality, creativity and humor. “It’s a dream come true,†says David Kurtis. “With a business and a little one, adventure often takes a back seat. We really appreciate being chosen.â€Â
The Kurtises themed their YouTube video after the Rusted Root song “Send Me on My Way,†using a contest-specific version of the song written by David and performed by family friend Gavan Rousseau. Although just a minute long, the video features the family acting like various South African animals in safari-like situations from Florida to Ontario, and including a penguin scene filmed in their home base of DeTour on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. “We also had footage from Niagara Falls,†says David. “There wasn’t a time that we weren’t thinking of this video. We genuinely had a ton of fun making it.â€Â
The Kurtis family’s sense of fun obviously rubbed off on the contest’s panel of judges, which included representatives from Africa Travel at About.com,Family Travel Network, South African Airways, South African Tourism, and Africa Adventure Consultants. Judges viewed and voted on the contest’s 25 top vote-getting video entries to select the grand prize winner. “It was so much fun watching the creative videos that people created for the ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’ contest,†said the Family Travel Network judge. “With so many great entries, picking the winner was a tough job.â€Â
The “Monkey See, Monkey Do†grand prize is a 10-day family safari courtesy of Africa Adventure Consultants and includes airfare on South African Airways, a stay at Cape Town’s Radison Blu Hotel Waterfront with family-friendly city tours, two days at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve on the famous Garden Route, and a stay at Etali Safari Lodge in Madikwe Game Reserve for multiple game drives with the chance to see favorite South African wildlife up close.
