Africa Clubs Championships: St. George to face Zamalek, Dedebit eliminated
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – St. George FC of Ethiopia advanced to the next round of the Orange CAF Champions League, after eliminating Djoliba A.C. of Mali on 3-1 aggregate score.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Bamako today, but St. George won the first leg match 2-0 in Addis Ababa two weeks ago.
Djoliba led 1-0 at half-time and St. George scored the equalizer through their captain Degu Debebe.
St. George will face next Zamalek of Egypt, who eliminated Vita Club of the Congo 1-0 on aggregate score.
St. George played without Adane and Alula Girma, who didn’t join the team in Bamako due to injury.
Confederation Cup
Meanwhile, Dedebit FC, Ethiopia’s representative in the Orange CAF Confederation Cup, failed to take home field advantage and were held to a scoreless match by Al Ahly Shandy of Sudan here today. As the Sudanese side has won the first leg match 1-0, they advanced to the next round on a 1-0 aggregate score.
Dedebit’s top striker and the current Ethiopian Premier League top goal scorer, Getaneh Kebede failed to convert a penalty kick 34 minutes into the first half.
