U.S. Embassy Hosts Trade Mission to Ethiopia
Press Release
Eight U.S. Firms from the State of Illinois Visit Addis Ababa
ADDIS ABABA – From May 13 to 15, the U.S. Embassy hosted industry representatives from the State of Illinois as part of a trade mission to Ethiopia. The eight American firms represented offered a broad range of products and services from a variety of industry sectors, including construction, renewable energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and manufacturing.
The trade mission demonstrates the United States government’s commitment to broadening our trade relationship with Ethiopia, one of the fastest growing economies in the world. All of the U.S. companies on this mission were first time visitors to Ethiopia. Through meetings with potential Ethiopian partners and Ethiopian government officials, delegates quickly recognized Ethiopia’s tremendous market opportunities.  More than half of the companies left with plans already in place to return for further discussions, and several promising trade deals are now on the table.
The following companies participated in the trade mission:
Company | Sector |
Ability Engineering Technology | Manufacturing |
Ethno Solutions | Cosmetics |
Green Innovation and Technology | Energy |
Kofa International | Mining |
Lodaat LLC | Pharmaceutical |
MacLean Power Systems | Energy |
Mi-Jack Products | Construction and Manufacturing |

The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa hosted the trade mission to Ethiopia, with support from the State of Illinois Office of Trade and Investment Export Promotion and the U.S. Commercial Service Export Assistance Center in Chicago. United States bilateral trade with Ethiopia reached $1.1 billion in 2012.
