Ethiopia courts Arsenal’s Zelalem
Addis Ababa – Ethiopians are hopeful that Arsenal‘s new young talent Gedion Zelalem will change his mind and play for the Walia Ibex.
Zelalem whose father was born in Ethiopia and migrated twitted “still proud” after Ethiopia lost 1-2 to Nigeria in a World cup playoff match in Addis Ababa on Sunday.
Ethiopian foreign minister Adnanom Tedros did not hesitate as he responded to the youngster on twitter saying, “Hi Gedion we hope you will play for Ethiopia soon.”
Coach Sewnet Bishaw has also expressed his desire to see the 16 year old join the Walia Ibex describing him as immensely talented.
“That boy Zelalem is very talented and amazing he could be a plus to the Walia’s midfield but the decision must come from him personally, ” Sewnet told supersport.com.
Zelalem was born in Germany and is eligible to play for Ethiopia, Germany and the United States. He joined Arsenal in the January transfer window and has since impressed coach Arsene Wenger who has promoted him to train with the senior team.
