Ethiopia announces team for CHAN

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian National team has selected 27 local footballers for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament to be held in South Africa in January 2014, and will begin training next week.

Goalkeeper Sisay Bancha and defender Abebaw Butako have both been dropped from the squad, sources told The Reporter. The two players were involved in a fight in Calabar, Nigeria, after the Walias lost 2–0 to the Super Eagles in the World Cup play-off.

Walias participating in CHAN:

St George: Alula Girma, Salahadin Bergecho, Degu Debebe, Menyahel Teshome, Adane Girma, Omed Ukri, Beyadeglegn Elyas, Mentesenot Adane

Ethiopian Coffee: Jemal Tasew, Fasika Asfaw, Tok James, Ephrem Ashamo

Dedebit: Tariku Getenet, Seyoum Tesfaye, Birhanu Bogale, Tadele Mengesha, Shemeket Gugsa

Arba Minch Kenema: Gebremichael Yakob, Mulalem Yakob

Dashen Beer: Dereje Alemu, Aynalem Hailu and Asrat Megersa

Defence Force: Manaye Fantu
