EFF sacks Sewnet Bishaw
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia -Â Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) have sacked Sewnet Bishaw as coach of the Walia Ibex with immediate effect.
The decision to sack the coach was reached by the executive committee after Ethiopia were eliminated in the first round in the recently concluded Chan tourney won by Libya.
EFF President Junedin Basha confirmed the new developments to supersport.com.
“I can acknowledge we have parted ways with coach Sewnet Bishaw with immediate effect as the team has not been able to achieve the set goals and there was hue and cry from fans who were disappointed by the performance. It was a tough decision but at the end of the day we have to do what is best to improve our football,” Bashah told supersport.com.
Bishaw has been credited to helping Ethiopia to reach the 2014 World Cup play offs where they were eliminated by Nigeria. He also helped Walia qualify for the 2013 African Cup of Nations hosted by South Africa and the Chan 2014 tourney.
He also achieved regional success winning the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in 2005 in his first stint as manager before being relieved off his duties.
Sewnet was later reinstated as coach of the National team in October 2011 taking over from Belgian Tom Saintfiet .
The 62 year old coach has been under pressure since arriving back from South Africa where Ethiopia were eliminated in the first round as fans called for his sacking perhaps disappointed by the team performance during the Chan tournament.
