Tirfi Tsegaye breaks course record at Tokyo Marathon
Tokyo, Japan –Tirfi Tsegaye of Ethiopia smashed the women’s course record at the 2014 Tokyo Marathon here today by finishing first in 2:22.23, followed by her compatriot Birhane Dibaba (2:22.30).
The men’s race was won by  Dickson Chumba of Kenya, who also set a new course record and personal best time of 2:05.42.  Tadese Tola of Ethiopia came in second place in 2:05.57, while fellow Ethiopian Deressa Chimsa finished seventh (2:07.40).
The Tokyo Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race.
Chumba was the third Kenyan in succession to win the men’s race, Tsegaye was the third consecutive Ethiopian woman to win in Tokyo.
