Addis Hilton to be renovated at a cost of 100 million birr

Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel is to be renovated at a cost of 100 million birr.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Informed sources told The Reporter that the hotel would soon embark on major renovation work that will transform the hotel. Hotel reviewers indicate that the hotel renders efficient and hospitable services. However, they lament that the hotel is aging. The management now seems determined to make a substantial investment in uplifting the hotel and giving it a new look.

The general manager of the Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel, Haakon Gaarder-Larsen, confirmed the planned renovation project. However, he said it was too early to disclose the details of the project. “This is something that we have been working on with owners of the hotel for quite some time now but I cannot say anything before it is finalized,” Gaarder-Larsen told The Reporter.

The Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel is located off Menelik II Avenue, with proximity to the headquarters of the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and is in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  The historic hotel was constructed and opened during the reign of Emperor Haile Selassie. The Emperor inaugurated the Hotel on November 3, 1969.

With six distinctive restaurants and bars, Hilton Addis Ababa offers a range of cuisines and settings, including the popular poolside Sunday brunch with live music, or rustic wood-fired specialties from the pizzeria.

Blending traditional Ethiopian touches with contemporary style, Hilton Addis Ababa was designed to mirror the famous Lalibela Cross, and the motif is recurrent throughout the hotel. According to the hotel’s official website, the hotel has 372 rooms that offer pool or mountain views, original artwork, comfortable sleeping areas and ample workspace. The hotel also offers suites, apartments and a ballroom accommodating up to 600 guests.
