Ethiopia Tops Medal Tally in Taekwondo at the 2nd African Youth Games
Ethiopia has topped others in the overall medal tally in the Taekwondo competition at the 2nd African Youth Games.
A total of 121 athletes, including 70 males, from 31 African countries took part in the taekwondo competition for top honors. Of the participating countries, 15 countries took home at least one medal.
At the Taekwondo competitions, which took place on 27-29 May, 2014 at the Ditshupo Hall in Gaborone, Botswana, Ethiopia took home five gold medals and one bronze medal. The three-day event featured five male and five female weight categories.
Egypt came next with two golds and two silvers, followed by the Congo Democratic Republic with one gold, two silvers and one bronze medal, and Mali with one gold and one bronze.
Chad clinched one gold, while Cote d’Ivoire won three silvers and two bronzes. Morocco took home two silvers and one bronze and Senegal earned one silver, while Tunisia grabbed four bronzes.
Host Botswana and Gabon took home three bronzes each, while Swaziland, Nigeria, Libya and Kenya won one bronze each.
