ONE World Sports and Chinese Basketball Association Agree to a Multi-Year Programming Extension
Press Release
New Agreement Covers Regular and Post-Season Games, All Media Platforms, Through 2017.
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 01, 2014 - ONE World Sports, America’s Network for Global Sports, today announced that it has secured a multiyear extension with Infront Sports & Media, the exclusive global marketing partner of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), to exclusively telecast CBA games in the United States and Canada for the next three seasons across all media platforms. The network’s multiplatform coverage includes two games per week during the regular season, the CBA All-Star game and all post-season competition, including the CBA Championship Finals series.
All games will be shown live and produced at the ONE World Sports Broadcast Center in Stamford, CT. ONE World Sports’ U.S.-based on-air talent will be announced later this summer.
The 18-team CBA, founded in 1995, is considered one of the world’s premier men’s basketball leagues. In March, two-time NBA All-Star and former New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury led the Beijing Ducks to their second CBA title in four years. ONE World Sports was the first network to deliver regular-season U.S. television exposure of the CBA to American sports fans in 2011.
“The CBA is home to some of the world’s most competitive basketball,†said Joel Feld, ONE World Sports’ Senior Vice President, programming and production. “Only on ONE World Sports can U.S. fans see future NBA prospects and former NBA favorites in the world’s most populous nation — where basketball’s popularity is growing faster than anywhere else.â€
The best-known CBA alumnus in the United States is Yao Ming, the Shanghai native who played for five seasons for the senior team of the CBA’s Shanghai Sharks before being recruited to the NBA. Over the course of eight seasons with the Houston Rockets, he earned the No. 6 rank among franchise leaders in total points and total rebounds, and second in total blocks, and made the All-NBA team five times. Ming now stays actively involved with the CBA, as the owner of the Shanghai Sharks.
