The Board of Directors of Ethiopian Airlines awards Gold Medal to CEO Tewolde Gebremariam for Exceptional Leadership.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – At a ceremony held after a meeting between the Board of Management and Ethiopian Executive Management on Friday, July 18 and Saturday July 19, 2014, the Board of Directors recognized CEO Tewolde Gebremariam by awarding him a Gold Medal for this exceptional leadership, dedication and hard work, which have enabled Ethiopian to register outstanding performance as per its fast, profitable and sustainable growth strategy, Vision 2025, despite the very challenging operating environment, which has put many airlines in the red. The extraordinary performance in the last few years positioned Ethiopian as the leading Airline in Africa and 18th and 37th in the world in Profitability and revenue respectively.

H.E. Ato Addisu Legesse, Board Chairman of Ethiopian, expressed his delight on the great achievements of the company under the leadership of Ato Tewolde and the hard work and dedication of all employees in the successful implementation Vision 2025, which has entered its 5th year. He further stressed the critical contribution of the national carrier to the overall economic development of the country and pledged the support of the Board to the management and the entire staff of the airline for the continued success of the airline.

On receiving the Gold Medal, the CEO said “The award recognizes all management and staff, who are playing their part in enabling our beloved Airline to shine high in the sky. The success of Ethiopian is the result of the hard work of all 8,000 + Ethiopian family, with the support of the Board and the Government. I dedicate this award to all my fellow colleagues, who have made our current success possible. We are very lucky to have a Board that recognizes our hard work. This recognition is a source of tremendous encouragement for all of us to continue to work hard in unison so that our beloved airline continues to shine high in the sky and we attain the objectives of Vision 2025.”
