NBA: Philadelphia 76ers acquire Luc Mbah a Moute
The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Saturday that they have acquired the Miami Heat‘s 2015 first-round pick, veteran forward Luc Mbah a Moute and guard Alexey Shved from Minnesota in exchange for forward Thaddeus Young.
Mbah a Moute, a 6’8” forward, was originally the 37th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by Milwaukee and spent his first five seasons with the Bucks. He began last season with Sacramento before being traded to Minnesota on November 26, 2013. For his career, Mbah a Moute has appeared in 399 games with 240 starts.
A native of Cameroon, Mbah a Moute is credited with helping discover fellow countryman Joel Embiid at a basketball camp. Embiid was the third overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Shved, a 6’6” guard, signed with Minnesota on July 24, 2012 following a highly successful career playing in his home country of Russia. From 2007-08 through 2011-12, Shved helped lead CSKA Moscow to four Russian League championships, as well as a EuroLeague title in 2007-08 and runner-up finishes in 2008-09 and 2011-12.
As a rookie for the Timberwolves in 2012-13, Shved appeared in 77 games with 16 starts and joined Damian Lillard and Dion Waiters as the only first-year players to average at least eight points and three assists per game.
Young was originally the 12th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2007 NBA Draft and has spent all seven seasons in the NBA with the Sixers. For his career, Young is shooting 50% from the floor and has nearly as many steals (708) as turnovers (717).
He is one of six players in franchise history to have recorded at least 7 000 points, 2 800 rebounds, 700 assists and 700 steals with the Sixers.
