Swedish medical delegation providing free cardiac surgery service in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – A medical delegations drawn from three Swedish universities are providing cardiac surgery for children and adults at the cardiac center in the premises of the Tikur Anbessa Hospital in Addis Ababa.
60 people, including children will benefit from the service that will last for two weeks by the 27 member delegation, being provided free of charge.
Delegation leader, Dr Liyew Desta conducted with the collaboration the Swedish Cardiologists and Tikur Anbesa Specialized Hospital.
According to Dr. Liyew, if not receiving the treatment here, the patients would spend up to 200,000 Birr for the service overseas.
The delegation has also donated medical equipments and medicine valued at 24 million Birr that are essential to conduct cardiac surgery to the center.
Associate Prof. at the Addis Ababa University School of Medicine Birhanu Nega on his part said medical equipments and medicine are the main challenges to conduct cardiac surgery at the center.
