NYC Marathon: Keitany and Kipsang victorious
Mary Keitany of Kenya won the women’s race in the chilly, windy New York City Marathon on Sunday in an unofficial time of two hours 25 minutes seven seconds.
Compatriot Jemima Sumgong finished second, three seconds behind after dueling with Keitany over the last two miles, while Portugal’s Sara Moreira, running her first marathon, was third in 2:25:59.
Wilson Kipsang of Kenya won the men’s race with a final sprint to the finish in an unofficial two hours 10 minutes 59 seconds.
Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia, who surged into the lead in the last half-mile only to be rebuffed by Kipsang, finished second four seconds behind, with compatriot Gebre Gebremariam taking third in 2:12:13.
