Guye Adola runs course record 59:06 at Delhi Half-Marathon
Ethiopia’s Guye Adola ran a course record and personal best of of 59:06, the third fastest time of the year, to win the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday (23).
Adola took six seconds off the previous mark in the Indian city, set by countryman Atsedu Tsegay in 2013.
In a thrilling finale to the race, Adola just held off Kenya’s 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships gold medallist Geoffrey Kamworor and Ethiopia’s Mosinet Geremew, who were second and third in 59:07 and 59:11 respectively.
The 2014 world leader, Kenya’s Abraham Cheroben, who ran 58:48 in the Spanish city of Valencia just over a month ago, was back in seventh today in 59:21.
The men’s also had a staggering depth at the top end with no less than nine runners under the one hour mark.
The women’s race also saw the world champion from Copenhagen back in March having to settle for second best, albeit also just one second in arrears of the winner.
World record holder Florence Kiplagat won in 1:10:04 and defeated her compatriot Gladys Cherono, who was second in 1:10:05.
