Ethiopian recommences flights to Doha

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian Airlines resumed thrice weekly flight service it interrupted some years back with an inaugural flight to Qatar, Doha on Tuesday.
Ethiopian suspended its flights to Doha following a diplomatic row between governments of the two countries some years back. However, the two governments resolved their diplomatic feud and forged a new cordial relationship that prompted a strong economic and political ties. The Qatari government opened an embassy in Addis Ababa, the political capital of Africa.
Senior Qatari government officials including Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar visited Addis Ababa in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
Last month Ethiopian minister of State with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Berhane Gebrechirstos was in Doha for a two-day official visit. The two countries established a especial joint committee that works on the ratification and implementation of bilateral agreements signed by the two governments.
The new cordial relation prompted Ethiopian to recommence a thrice weekly flight to Doha with a Boeing 737-700 jetliner this week. Doha has become Ethiopian 84 international destination. Ethiopian plans to connect Doha with its 49 destinations in Africa.
