Ethiopia to register six additional heritages under UNESCO

Sof Omar CaveAddis Ababa: Ethiopia – The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCT) said a study has been finalized to register six additional heritages under UNESCO.

The six heritages are Dire Sheikh Hussein Mosque, Sof Omar Cave, Melka Kuntre Archeological Site, Gedeo Mixed Cultural and Natural Landscape, Fiche Chembelal and Harrar Washerah Culture Festivals, according to Gezahegn Abate, Public and International Relations Directorate Director at MoCT.

A study conducted to register the Sof Omar Cave and the Dire Sheik Hussein mosque as world heritage has already been submitted to UNESCO, according to Gezahegn.Similarly, a study is underway to register Geda and Irreecha festivals in Oromia Regional State as UNESCO world heritage event, he said.UNESCO has already inscribed Meskel festival and Konso Cultural Landscape under its list, he said.
