Waliyas2014Barreto was heavily criticized for his sticking with the 4-3-3 style of play. But he remained adamant that it was his way or the high way. Preparing to host Mali, Barreto decided to shake things up even more. Another teenager in Dawa Hotessa was called up, while Amin Askar and Walid Atta joined the squad for the first time, although Amin Askar would ultimately not feature at all for the Walyas with the EFF appearing to have eventually pushed him out of national team contention in extremely murky circumstances. It is pretty evident the trio were axed for their role in the mini uprising. Others allude their falling out to Barreto’s decision making. Whatever the case, the trio haven’t been included in any Ethiopian national team squads since, and Adane Girma even admitted his international career may have ended on that note saying “I doubt I will ever play for the national team again.”
