Great Ethiopian Run raised 1.3 million birr at the 2014 10k race

Debre Libanos, Ethiopia – Great Ethiopian Run official fundraising under the slogan “Running for a Cause” raised 1.3 million birr from the 10km international event that took place on 23rd November 2014.
The donation was transferred at a press conference held in Debre Libanos, located 95km North of Addis Ababa at one of the four beneficiary organizations Sewasew Genet Development Organization. H.E. ZenebuTadesse Minister of MoWCY, Mr. Faustin Yao Country Director of UNFPA representing UN Ethiopia, other invited guests and journalists attended the event.
Representatives from all the four beneficiaries attended the event and each got a total of 325.000 birr. H.E. ZenebuTadesse said “helping people in need should be a priority for all of us” and thanked Great Ethiopian Run and UN Ethiopia for the role they are playing to help the less fortunate.
“We will strengthen our work with Great Ethiopian Run to help more people through 10k International race. We are also using sport to promote important messages including ‘Empower Women, Empower a Nation’ which are parts of MDG and need more attention” Mr. Yao said.
Ermias Ayele, Race Director, Great Ethiopian Run, thanked Knarvikmila from Norway that raised half of the 1.3 million birr in 2014 and has been supporting the fundraising for the last 5 years. He has also thanked every individual and organizations for donating money for the campaign.

- Mesert Humanitarian Organization
- Sewasewe Genet Charity and Development Organization
- Brothers and Sisters Children Center (Gambella)
- Benshangule Women Association
