Orange Champions League: St. George eliminated on away goal rule

Bahir Dar, Ethiopia – Ethiopian Premier League champions St. George FC has been eliminated from the Orange Champions League competition on away goal rule.

After losing 1-0 to Mc El Eulma in the first leg match a couple weeks ago, the Horsemen won the return match 2-1 here today. Although the aggregate score was 2-2, the Algerians advanced on away goal rule.

Behailu Assefa opened the score for St. George in the 39th minute and Adane Girma added a second in the 68th but the Algerians got one back two minutes later through Ombingo.

Today’s match was attended by more than 50,000 spectators, setting a new record for Ethiopian soccer.
