Sewnet Bishaw to set up a new youth soccer project
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Sewnet Bishaw, who led Ethiopia to its first Africa Cup of Nations in 31 years in 2013, has dedicated himself to new missions in Ethiopian football.
Since he left the national team coach position, Sewnet has been working on the prospect of setting up a new youth football academy similar to plans in South Africa, focused on developing youth that will benefit the nation in time to come.
The South African Football Association (SAFA ) is forging ahead with plans to revamp the Transnet/SAFA School of Excellence in Elandsfontein, East of Johannesburg. Led by Steve Pila, Head of Academies at SAFA, the project is already underway.
The Ethiopian Football Federation is developing a similar concept plan that will herald a national academy system comprising local regional football plus centers of excellence, and provincial academies all feeding into the national academy.
The project will be managed by Sewnet but with the input and directions from a committee formed by the Ethiopian Football Federation.
