Klinsmann believes Gedion Zelalem is already on national team level
United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann said he plans to include Gedion Zelalem with the full national team if he is granted clearance to do so by FIFA.
Zelalem’s international fate is currently in the hands of the international governing body. He is also qualified to play for Ethiopia (his father’s native country) and Germany (his birthplace), but he has expressed his desire to play for the U.S. national team and took steps to fulfill that objective.
The promising Arsenal midfielder, 18, received his American citizenship in December after proceeding through the naturalization process, but he requires an exception to play for the national team because he has not fulfilled the requirement of living on American soil for five years after his 18th birthday.
