Ethiopia plans to build 700,000 Condos in GTP II

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Construction disclosed that it plans to construct over 700,000 condominiums during the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) period.

Speaking at the 9th Civil Service Day where the ministry discussed the performance of GTP II and areas of focus of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan today, Urban Development, Housing and Construction Minister Mekuria Haile said the ministry has constructed 166,000 houses in Addis Ababa during GTP I, though the target was 150,000.

More than 60,000 jobs were also created and 100,000 houses handed over to inhabitants during the first GTP, he added.

According to Mekuria, the ministry targets to create 8.5 million jobs during GTP II. Unemployed citizens, women in particular will be engaged in the beautification and green development of cities.
