Montreal Impact hope to keep Drogba
Montreal – Major League Soccer’s Montreal Impact hope to keep Didier Drogba for next season and prevent his return to Chelsea.
“We are currently in contact with Didier Drogba and Chelsea,” the club tweeted on Wednesday.
“We are doing everything we can to have him back with the Impact in 2016. We understand his attachment to his former club and his desire to help them. We are willing to accommodate him. But our objective is to have him back for another season, as agreed in his contract. This situation is out of our control.”
The 37-year-old scored 12 goals in 12 regular-season games after joining the Impact in July.
Guus Hiddink called Drogba a Chelsea legend on Wednesday during his first news conference since replacing Jose Mourinho as manager.
“People have to deal with contracts and situations. That’s not to do with me,” Hiddink said.
Drogba attended Chelsea’s 3-1 won over Sunderland last weekend, sitting with Hiddink and owner Roman Abramovich.
