Orange CAF Champions League: Kedus Giorgis wins battle of the Saints
Addis Ababa – Kedus Giorgis (a.k.a Saint George), Ethiopian Premier League defending Champion and Ethiopia’s representative in this year’s Orange CAF Champions League, defeated Saint Michel United of the Seychelles 2-0 here in the first leg match of the competition.
Veteran player Adane Girma had a hand in all the goals, scoring the first (16′), assisting Behailu Girma (43′) in the second and it was his shot that allowed Godwin Chika (Nigerian import) to score the team’s third goal (80′) after Saint Michel’s goalie couldn’t secure the ball.
The Ethiopian champions were without the service of Ugandan-import Brian Umony, who has a fractured thigh bone, and centre-back Salahdin Bargicho, who is also nursing an injury following treatment in Germany.
This was not the first time that Saint Michel United faced an Ethiopian opponent in Orange CAF Champions League, as they’ve suffered a 8-1 loss to in 1998.
The return leg match will take place in the Seychelles in two-weeks time.
