Terrible week for Ethiopian soccer as Lucy is eliminated

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – This has been a terrible week for Ehiopian soccer.

First, the men’s team (Walias) was humiliated by Algeria in a 7-1 trashing yesterday. And if this has not created enough anger and anguish as it is for Ethiopian soccer fans,the women’s side (Lucy) was eliminated from the 10th Africa Women Nations Cup tournament by the Fennecs of Algeria on a 2-1 aggregate score after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the second leg match played here today.

The Algerians won the first leg match 1-0.

Lucy led 1-0 at half-time after star player Loza Abera scored 34 minute into the game. However, Dalila Zerrouki, who plays for Abu Dhabi Country Club, scored the equalizer just 4 minutes before the end of regulation time.

Meanwhile, Walias will face the mighty Algerians once again on Tuesday for the return leg Group J match here in Addis Ababa.
