Ethiopian Premier League: Dedebit beat Ethiopian Coffee 3-0
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The 2016/17 Ethiopian Premier League kicked off here yesterday with defending champions Kedus Giorgis (Saint George) defeating Arba Minch Kenema (Arba Minch City) 3-0.
The league resumed today with seven other games played in various cities of the country.
The most anticipated game took place here in the capital where Dedebit beat Ethiopian Bunna (Ethiopian Coffee) 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick by Getaneh Kebede, who returned to domestic league following a 3-year stint in South Africa.
Dedebit took a 1-0 lead at half-time after Kebede scored his first goal of the season in the 27th minute and the ace striker added two more goals (52′ & 78′) in the second period of the match.
In Yergalem, Sidama Bunna (Sidama Coffee) needed a goal from Tertaye Demeke (28′) to defeat newly promoted side Fasil Kenema (Fasil City). It was by an identical score that Adama Kenema (Adama City) took care Dire Dawa Kenema (Dire dawa City) at home. Souleyman Mohammed scored the lone goal of the match (60′).
Newly promoted side Jimma Abba Bunna failed to take home advantage as they were held scoreless by the visiting Ethio-Electric.
Mekelakeya travelled south and succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wolayta Dicha. Bezabeh Meleyo (55′) and Alazar Fasika (73′) were the scorers.
The day ended on a high note for two newly promoted sides as Addis Ababa Kenema (Addis Ababa City) shocked Hawassa Kenema (Hawassa City) 2-0 at home with goals coming from Haile-Eyesus Melka (51′) and Fekadu Alemu (71′) and Andualem Negussie (64′) gave fans of Woldiya FC great joy as he scored the winner in the 1-0 victory over Commercial bank of Ethiopia.
