Ethiopian Athletes Victorious in Valencia

Chala Ketema Regasa wins the Valencia 10K (Organisers)

Valencia, Spain – Tsehay Gemechu and Chala Ketema Regasa of Ethiopia were victorious at the Valencia 10K Ibercaja run winning the women and men’s races respectively.

Gemechu won her race in 27:23 thus setting a new Ethiopian record long held by veteran athlete Tirunesh DibabaGloria Kite of Kenya took second place followed by fellow compatriot Evaline Chirchir. 

Meanwhile Silan Hunegnaw of Ethiopia finished seventh followed by Trihas Gebre  an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner who competes for Spain internationally.

Men’s Race

Chala Ketema Regasa took advantage of his superior track speed to smash the course record to finish in a time of 27:23. He was followed by Stephen Kissa of Uganda and Vedic Cheruiyot of Kenya. Meanwhile, Batesta Getahun and Abayneh Degu, Ethiopia’s two other representatives, finished fourth and seventh respectively.
