Timket “Epipahny” Celebrated Across Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, January 19, 2021 – Christian faithful across Ethiopia today celebrated Timket (Epiphany), a festivity to commemorate Jesus Christ’s baptism.
In Addis Ababa, it was celebrated at the Jan Meda in the presence of Abune Mathias, patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, government officials and the faithful.
In his remark at the celebration, Abune Mathias, has called on the people to show kindness to others, strengthen their unity, safeguard their country and protect themselves from COVID-19
Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa city, Adanech Abiebie, for her part said Timket celebration is “our unique festivity that we use it to build our image.”
Timket, which is one of outdoor festivals in Ethiopia, is a two-day celebration. The eve of Timket, Ketera, was celebrated yesterday.
It was registered as Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
