Ethiopian Football: New 25,000-seat stadium to be built in Weldiya, Wollo

Weldiya, Wollo – A new and modern football stadium, with a capacity to hold 25,000 spectators, will be built here in the area known as “Mechare Meda”.

This was announced during the stadium’s ground breaking ceremony, which was attended by Gedu Andargachew, Vice-Chairman of ANDM and Dr. Arega Yirdaw, CEO of Midroc Ethiopia Technology Group.

The construction on the 331 million Birr stadium is expected to be completed in 5-year time.

Residents of Weldiya have so far raised 1 million Birr and government employees have pledged their 1 month salaries. Furthermore, three new fund raising committees have been established in Weldiya, Dessie, and Addis Ababa.
